Wednesday of last week a message was received from the war department by Ord Trummel, stating that his son, Ernest, was reported missing January 5th, in the European area.

Ernest has been in overseas services for almost a year.

According to word received by Mr. and Mrs. Ord Trummel of Wilmore, their son, Staff Sgt. Ernest A. Trummel, who was a gunner with the U. S. Eighth Air Force in England, was missing in action over France on January 5.

In most instances a report of airmen were killed over enemy territory have been reported by the German Red Cross. Thus, as no further word has been heard concerning Sgt. Trummel, it is likely that he is either in a German prisoner of war camp or is in hiding among sympathetic French peasants. The principal German camp for captured U. S. aviators is between Berlin and Rhostov, 50 miles north of the capital. There our boys are well fed and housed, have their own athletic filed and are very much alive.

At the time Sgt. Trummel was reported missing he was 33 years of age. He graduated from Wilmore High School and farmed with his father until he entered the Army in April 1942, taking his basic training at Shepperd Field, Texas.

He was then sent to a bomber mechanic's school at El Paso, Texas and at San Diego, Calif., took advanced training as an aerial gunner and airplane mechanic. He was in training at Pueblo, Colo., at the time Clark Gable was there and after a few days spent at home, he left for overseas in May, 1943.

Arriving in England, he was placed in a ground crew burt also finished his training as a gunner overseas without telling his parents.Sgt. Trummel's relatives and his many friends are anxiously awaiting word of his return to his squadron in England. he has made an excellent record as an efficient soldier.
