Engeburg Nickelson Uhl was born in Lintholm, Germany, on Dec. 24, 1953, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert Griffith, Coldwater, Kan., March 22, 1930, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 26 days.In 1877 she was united in marriage to Carsten E. Anderson at Niebill, Germany, who departed this life in the year 1885. To this union four children were born, Mrs. O. R. Neal, Wichita, Kan., S. A. Anderson, Alva, Okla., Mrs. W. G. Jarnigan and Andy H. Anderson, deceased.
In the year 1886, Mrs. Anderson came to America where she joined her brothers, later locating on a claim in Comanche county. In the year 1887 she was united in marriage to Mearus Uhl of Greensburg, Kan. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Bert Griffith, Coldwater, Kan., Arthur M. Uhl, Wilmore, Kan., and Mrs. Chas. England deceased. Her husband died in 1915 at their home in Wilmore.
At the age of 15 she was confirmed in the German Lutheran church and later united with the Methodist church at Greensburg, Kansas.
She was a loving wife and mother, bearing the trials of early pioneer life with patience and fortitude. She was esteemed by all her friends who will remember her for her kindness and devotion.
Besides a host of friends she leaves to mourn her death, four children, four brothers, two sisters and sixteen grandchildren who will miss her greatly, and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Coldwater Tuesday afternoon at two thirty. The services were in charge of Rev. Handy, assisted by Rev. Schifferdecker of the Christian church. Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery.
