The Western Star, June 19, 1925.

DEATH OF M. UHL

M. Uhl of Wilmore died on Tuesday afternoon of this week in St. Francis hospital, Wichita, after a lingering illness resulting from lung trouble and complications. He had been in Wichita for several weeks receiving medical treatment. The body was brought to Wilmore on Wednesday and burial was made in the Wilmore cemetery (sic) on Thursday, following funeral services, which were held in the Baptist church and which were in charge of Rev. Ben Davis of the M. E. church.

Mr. Uhl had been a resident of this county for a number of years, making his home in or near Wilmore. By all who knew him he was regarded as an honorable and law-abiding citizen and as a good neighbor and friend. Loyalty to his family, honesty and kindness were among some of his dominant characteristics. Mr. Uhl was a native of Germany, but many years ago he became a loyal American citizen, and he never wavered in his devotion to the U. S.

Mr. Uhl is survived by his wife, by one son, Arthur, one step-son, S. A. Anderson of Woods-co., Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Chas. England and Mrs. Bert Griffith of this county; and two step-daughters, Mrs. W. G. Jarnagin of this county and Mrs. O. R. Neal of Iola, Kans. At the time of his death Mr. Uhl was 69 years and 13 days of age. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all.

Note: It appears the burial place cited in the above obituary is incorrect, as Wilmore Cemetery records don't list his burial there. However, according to researcher Bobbi Huck, the following M. Uhl is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery: Medardus Uhl: June 3, 1856 - 1925. He came to America when he was 26. Married Ingeburg Nickelson. She was previously married. He is buried in Crown Hill, Lot 25, Block 21E.

Engeburg (Nickelson) Anderson Uhl, widow of M. Uhl. (The correct spelling of her first name, or his first name, is unknown to the webmaster of this site.)
