Funeral services for Mrs. N. E. Vance, who died in Coldwater on Wednesday of last week, were held in Protection at 2 o'clock p.m. on Friday last, at the Baptist church, with Rev. Walter H. Flesher, the pastor, in charge. Interment was made in the Protection cemetery, beside her husband. The following songs were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. Alva Shoemaker, Mrs. Walter Flesher, Sam Frantz and Clarence Ashcraft. "The City Foursquare", "The City of Gold", "No Disappointments in Heaven" and "Face to Face" with Mrs. Sam Frantz as accompanist. A duet was also sung by Mrs. Zerby and Mrs. Guizlo of Coldwater.

Pallbearers were Messrs. W. S. Wilson, T. L. Wilson, Art VanWey, Alva Alexander, Elma Bare and Chester Bare.

The following life sketch was read at the service:

Nancy Emeline, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Noftsger, was born near Knoxville, Iowa, July 15, 1848, and departed this life at Coldwater, Kans., December 21, 1938, at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 6 days.

Mrs. Vance grew to womanhood near Knoxville, the place of her birth. On September 9, 1867, she was united in marriage to Hugh W. Vance. To this union, nine children were born, three of them dying in infancy. One son, Frank, passed away on December 7, 1935, and a daughter, Mary, passed away on March 31, 1938.

In 1884, she with her husband and family moved to Comanche county, Kans. Here, near Protection, they homesteaded land and lived until the children were grown. He husband preceded her in death on July 1, 1907. She was converted at the age of 20, and later became a member of the Baptist Church at Protection. She was a faithful mother, a loyal citizen and neighbor, frank and honest in her convictions, and lived and died in the faith of a risen Savior.

She leaves to mourn her loss, four children; Mrs. Elizabeth Hungerford, Oakland, Calif., William B. Vance, Goltry, Okla., Lloyd Vance, Gate, Okla.; and Fred E. Vance, Belpre, Kans.; 29 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
