Elmer Vanwey, the oldest son of Art VanWey and wife, died at the home of his parents east of Protection, Wednesday morning about four o'clock. Elmer was born and reared in this county. He was joyed by all who knew him, being quiet and unassuming in manner, industrious and steady in his habits.Elmer had been ill for some months with rheumatism which had lately attacked his heart and caused him great suffering, all of which he had borne patiently.
Elmer was an ambitious boy but brave and cheerful in his suffering. His friends were only limited by his acquaintances and while of a retiring disposition he made friends of every one he met. Elmer VanWey was a young man with all his future before him and his untimely death is generally regretted by Protection and the entire community.
The funeral was held from the Baptist church in Protection, Thursday afternoon, conducted by Revs. I. W. Bailey and E. R. Stauffer and interment was made in the local cemetery.
OBITUARY Elmer Arthur VanWey was born in Protection, Kansas, June 18, 1894 and died May 9, 1916, aged 22 years, 10 months and 11 days. Elmer was a dutiful son, always kind and loving to his parents and brothers, and always found in his place at Sunday School and church services. His last testimony was that he was prepared and not afraid to die. He was cheerful and patient in all his suffering. He leaves to mourn his loss, father, mother, two brothers, an aged grandmother and many other relatives and friends, who feel their loss in his death.
