Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in this city for Robert E. Waddell who passed away Saturday, July 26, 1947, at the St. Anthony hospital in Dodge City. Rev. S. A. Fulton conducted the services bringing a message of sympathy to the sorrowing relatives and many friends.Raymond and Lee Roy Cline sang three hymns: "God Understands," "No Night There," "Sometime We'll Understand," accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Hobart McMillen.
The pall bearers were Albert Oller, Roy Oller, Walter Maris, Bernard Stark, Chet Mahan and Frank Meyer.
Burial was in the Crown Hill cemetery at Coldwater.
Obituary. Robert E. Waddell was born in Pike county, Missouri, November 10, 1885 and departed this life July 26, 1947, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 16 days.
He was the son of Lionius Leon and Rachel M. Waddell and he grew to manhood at Bellflower, Mo. In 1907 he moved to Baca county, Colo., where he homesteaded. He came to Coldwater in 1916 and two years later moved to the Thornton place, where he lived until the time of his death.
He was married to Bernice Paden on March 1, 1925. To this union five children were born. One daughter, Betty Lou, preceded her father in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bernice, his daughter, Mrs. Doris Ethel Dykes and husband Woody Dykes, a daughter, Blendia Ruth Duncan and husband Carroll Duncan, a son, Robert Waddell and wife Juanita and a daughter, Juanita Faye Waddell of the home. Also a sister, Mrs. Jailey Palardie, and three brothers; Clyde, Otto and Raymond Waddell, and two grandchildren, Barbara Jean Dykes and Woodrow T. T. Dykes.
Mr. Waddell had been in ill health for about three years and was suddenly worse about three weeks ago. He was a devoted husband and father, loving his family and home dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The Star wishes to extend deepest sympathy to the sorrowing friends and relatives.
