Friends and relatives alike in this county were greatly shocked last Saturday afternoon when word came that Mrs. Arthur White, who had undergone an operation in a Dodge City hospital on Thursday of last week, was in a very serious condition, and it was feared she would not recover. Her immediate family were called to her bedside. She passed away Monday afternoon of this week and funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Methodist church in Coldwater.

Mrs. White was one of the best loved women in the entire community, and her lovely Christian character and sunny disposition will long be remembered by all who knew her.

The funeral service was in charge of the pastor, Rev. W. E. Callahan, who was assisted by Rev. Herald Mickelson, pastor of the Friends church. Rev. Mickelson read several scriptures and gave the prayer, and Rev. Callahan brought a message of consolation and encouragement to all to live lives here of preparation for the future life.

Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Hadley sang three numbers - "Blessed Assurance," "God Will Take Care of You," and "In the Garden." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Wm. Brumbaugh. There were many flowers, sent as expressions of sympathy to the family.

Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery. The pall bearers were Paul Beitler, Jess Hill, Chas. Burt, Vertis Swarner, Dan Crowe and Otto Sherman.

Anna Vera Maris, daughter of John T. Maris and Elma (Hadley) Maris, was born in Yell county, Arkansas, May 31, 1889 and departed this life December 9, 1940, at the Murray Hospital in Dodge City, Kans.

She with her parents came to this county in December 1889, where she had since made her home.

She was united in marriage to Arthur J. White, January 26, 1910, at Coldwater, Kansas.

She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, three sons - Maris of Los Angeles, Calif., Wallace and John of Coldwater; and two daughters, - Alice Haydock of Los Angeles, Calif., and Nada, of the home; five grandchildren; her father, John T. Maris, Lovell, Okla.; also four brothers and three sisters - Burton W, Maris, Gove, Kans.; Grace Newlin, Loydminister, Saskatchewan, Canada; Ralph W. Maris, Protection, Kans.; Nellie J. Maris, Wichita, Kans.; Mabel Mullins, Salem, Oregon, and Walter T. Maris, Protection, Kans.; also a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Elma Maris, who died January 16, 1912, a sister, Myrtle Morton, January 1917, and one daughter, Emma, December 22, 1921.

Anna, as she was affectionately called by her friends, was a loving mother and faithful wife and mother and an adoring grandmother. She will be especially missed by her aged father, who she helped care for so tenderly. She was a member of the Coldwater Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Her membership since her birth had been in the Friends church where, in her youth under the influence of Godly parents, she gave her heart to God. The Bible was her textbook and its precepts and teachings the rule of her life.

Her time and strength were given unselfishly to the home and church, never too busy to lend a helping hand in times of sickness or death and always ready with a word of comfort and hope.

Her home-going leaves a place in the home and community that can never be filled.
