Emma White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. White, who live northwest of this city, passed away on Thursday forenoon of last week, and on Saturday afternoon the body was laid to rest in the Crown Hill cemetery. The following obituary was written by Emma's pastor, Rev. Guy W. Harvey, of the Prairie Vale Friends church.Emma Geraldine White was born on October 4, 1915, and died December 22, 1921, at the age of 6 years, 2 months and 18 days. She had not been well for a long time, suffering from frequent attacks of a trouble that medical skill seemed unable to reach. Her last illness covered a period of fifteen weeks. During this time she never complained but was patient in all her suffering. She was tenderly cared for by her parents and others, but especially will be loving care and patient watching and waiting of her mother be remembered.
Emma had always been a lovable child and will be missed by many outside the immediate family. Her favorite songs were, "Brighten the Corner where you are," "He's the One," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." During her sickness, she tried to sing these songs. One day she was singing and said "Mamma what does "In the Sweet Bye and Bye mean?" Her mother made the meaning clear, and then Emma said, "Mamma, I love Jesus. Don't you?" These little messages in song and word will be remembered and treasured.
Emma leaves her parents, Arthur and Anna White, three brothers, Maris, Wallace and John and one sister, Alice, beside many other relative and friends. These may look forward to the time of meeting her again, safe in the assurance that she is in Heaven with Him who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven."
Funeral services were conducted at the home on Saturday afternoon, December 24, by Guy W. Harvey, pastor of the Prairie Vale Friends Church.
A little one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
That never can be filled.
God in His wisdom hath bestowed
The boon His love hath given,
And tho' the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.
