Grant G. Wright of Sublette, Kans., shot and killed his wife, Mildred, and then fired a bullet through his own head, climaxing a family quarrel last Saturday afternoon at their home in Sublette. The Sublette Sheriff, Ed Brollier, declared that Wright shot and killed his wife using a .22 rifle but that he was still alive when Mrs. Daniels, mother of Mrs. Wright, stopped at the house shortly after the unfortunate incident. Mr. Wright died while preparations were being made to take him to the Garden City hospital.The shooting probably occurred about 2 p.m. according to Sheriff Brollier. Neighbors reported that the Wrights had several family arguments. Mrs. Wright was about 45 years of age and her husband about 52.
The Wrights had lived in Wichita but moved back to Sublette several months ago to be near Mrs. Wrights parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Daniels. Other survivors include six children. Two daughters, Mrs. Ray Burr and Mrs. Gene Wood who live in Wichita, a son, Richard, who is in the Coast Guard stationed in the Ellis Islands. The three younger children are Sandra, Bobby and Marilyn. Mrs. Wright's sister, Mrs. Hazel McGonigle. lives in Deerfield, Kans. Mr. Wright's mother, Mrs. W. P. Hodges, lives in Coldwater. He is also survived by two brothers, Earl and Kale Wright.
Grant Wright was born in Oklahoma and moved later to the Nescatunga township in this county where he attended the Nescatunga school and grew to manhood. An account of the funeral and of his life will be in next week's Star.

Funeral services for Grant G. Wright of Sublette, Kansas, son of Mrs. W. P. Hodges of Coldwater, were held Friday afternoon, August 8, at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian church in Coldwater, Rev. Mark F. Harris, pastor of the Church of Christ at Protection was in charge of the service. The Cline brothers, Raymond and LeRoy sang, "In The Garden," "The Eastern Gate" and "Rock of Ages."
The pall bearers were: Jay Pepperd, Oliver McCay, J. M. McCay Jr., Muriel Gregg, R. Whittmer and Ralph Beeley. Honorary pall bearers were, Godfrey Isenbart, Mark Brown, Howard Burnett, Elvin Herd, Albert Oller and W. M. Hackney.
Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery Sunday following the arrival home of a son, Richard Leroy, who was with the Coast Guard in Hawaii.
Obituary. Grant Greenwood Wright was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Buell B. Wright. He was born near Woodward, Okla., on Tuesday, August 4, 1898, and departed this life in Sublette, Kans., Saturday, August 2, 1947, at the age of 48 years, 11 months and 29 days. His wife preceded him in death only a short while.
When Grant was only four years of age he moved with his parents from Woodward County, Okla., to Comanche County, Kans. Here he grew to manhood in the New Eden community where he completed grade school. He worked on the farm at home until his father passed away in 1917.
On May 13, 1922, he was united in marriage at Liberal, Kans., with Miss Mildred Daniels of Satanta, Kans. To this union were born six children, four girls and two boys. The children are: Mrs. Ray Burr and Mrs. Gene Wood of Wichita; Richard LeRoy, 19 in the Coast Guard in Hawaii; Robert Elwood 13, Marilyn Sue 10, and Sandra Lou 8, of the home.
Following the death of his father, Grant became a car salesman and worked at the trade for about 20 years. When World War II began, he became an employee at the Boeing Airplane Factory in Wichita, Kans., where he continued to work for four years or five years. While working in Wichita he bought a home in which he and his family lived for two or more years.
About a year ago he sold out and moved to Sublette, Kans., where he built a home and lived there until his death.
About seven years ago, he united with the Methodist church, of which he had been a member until his death.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in which he arose to prominence.
He was a very devoted father of his children. Besides the children, already mentioned the following persons also remain to mourn his passing, His mother, Mrs. Ella O. Hodges and his step-father, W. P. Hodges of Coldwater; two brothers, Earle R. Wright of Garden City and Kail A. Wright of Alma, Kans.; one nephew, Earle R. Wright Jr., of Wichita; three nieces, Elizabeth Ann Wright of Wichita, Kans., Yvonne Earlene and Janice Irene Wright of Garden City; also two grandchildren, Julie Ann Burr and Michael Leroy Wood of Wichita, Kans.; several cousins and numerous friends and acquaintances.
