World War I, Comanche County, Kansas

The Western Star, November 1, 1918.

AMONG OUR BOYS

It is probable that another contingent will be ordered to the big training camps within the next three weeks.

The physical examination of Class One of the new registrants was begun yesterday by the local Draft Board and will be completed today.

J. H. Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Wright, is now stationed at Quantico, Va., one of the big naval training camps. When he last wrote he was well and expected soon to be on the "rolling deep."

Guy W. Von Schriltz returned Sunday from Lawrence where he had spent a week or so. He has been accepted as a member of the Officers' Training Corps. He expects to be called either to Camp McArthur or Camp Travis, Texas, within the next 4 or 5 weeks.

George Johnston writes the Star that he is no longer on the "Hartford," but that he is now on a cargo ship, the "Bedminster." When he wrote the ship was on its way from Jacksonville, Fla., to Philadelphia with a load of cross ties, but had put in at Charleston for coal. He promises to write us again soon and tell us more of his experiences.

The following names have been added to Class One in this county since the Star's last report:
1 - Winningham, Quincy Virgil, 322.
134 - Proctor, Stanley Edgar, 632.
196 - Harmon, Edgar Ward, 243.
282 - Septer, Franklin F., 642.
322 - Carter, Madison, J., 637.
402 - Day, Warren Wilson, 620.
414 - Scholle, Fred Harry, 238.
448 - Carter, William Murton, 555.
459 - Williams, Leo Isaac, 234.
