by Nellie BardotWrite your family history! Well!
Clarence Bardot was born December 1916, to Frank and Mary Bardot at Newton, Kansas. He came to Comanche county with his parents and sister, Irene, in 1917.
Nellie was born October, 1912, on a farm three miles south and two and a half miles west of Coldwater, Kansas, to Roy and Jane German.
On a hot Saturday afternoon June 29, 1935, Clarence and Nellie were married at Ashland, Kansas. They spent a few months working for farmers around Protection, Kansas, and a few weeks in Paxton, Nebraska. Clarence worked on the dam on the North Platte River.
In November, 1935, they moved to Coldwater, Kansas, and bought their present home in 1943. In 1947, they built more rooms on the home, and again in 1963, they built another room and a garage.
Both of their children were born at their home, as there was no hospital at the time. Buddy Monroe was born June 23, 1937. He attended Coldwater schools for 13 years. He graduated from Haviland Bible College (2 years) and from Ft. Hays State College (2 years). He met his wife, Juanita Love, when they were attending college at Hays. He earned his Masters Degree in Education from Emporia State College. He taught six years and then started working for Hartford Insurance Company. In 1980, he lives with his wife and three sons - Douglas, Dallas and Dwight - in West Hartford, Connecticut.
Ramona Jean (Franklin) Bardot was born June 7, 1943. She atended Coldwater schools for 13 years. She enjoyed Girl Scouts, was a leader one fall, and summer church camps. She was also a swimming instructor at the Coldwater smimming pool. She graduated from Hays State College with a BS degree. She worked two years in Colorado and five years as a nurse's aide at the Pioneer Lodge in Coldwater. In 1980, she owns a house and lives in McPherson, Kansas, where she has worked for John M. Nelson as a data processing clerk for the last seven years.
On May 8, 1945, Clarence entered the U.S. Army and took his training at Fort Hood, Texas. He was sent overseas in October of 1945 and was attached to the 477th Quartermaster Laundry Company at Johnson Air Base, Tokyo, Japan. Later he was sent to Kemple Air Base near Seoul, Korea. He was discharged as a Sgt. Tec. 4th Class, October 1946.
Clarence worked on the county bridge crew, and in 1952 was employed as custodian at the Coldwater school. Now, in 1989, he is still on the job. He and Nellie hung wall paper and painted for lots of their friends for nearly thirty years.
The last few years, Nellie has enjoyed bowling and piecing quilts for loved one. The Bardots belong to the Assembly of God Church and have reared their children in the same church.

The Western Star, January 28, 1988. Clarence Bardot
Clarence Bardot, 71, died Jan. 17, 1988 at the Pioneer Lodge, Coldwater, Kans.
He was born Dec. 13, 1916 in Newton Hospital, Newton.
At the age of one he came to Comanche County with his father and mother, Frank and Mary Bardot, and sister, Irene, all of which preceded him in death. His twin brother, Kenneth Monroe, died in infancy. Margaret Bardot Winn, who was born in Comanche County, also preceded him in death at San Carlos, Calif.
While he was in the seventh and eight grades, he and a couple of friends spent their two week Christmas vacation living in an old shack, trapping fur-bearing animals. In his sophomore year he left school in order to help support his mother and sister.
Clarence married Nellie M. German on June 29, 1935 at Ashland. To this union were born a son, Bud, and a daughter, Ramona.
His entire career was in Comanche County: first driving a semi for John Shultz Iron and Metal, then he was a bridge foreman for the county. Next he was a custodian at USD No. 300 from which he retired in Oct. 1981.
His work career was interrupted by an 18-month stint in the U. S. Army where he attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. His basic training was at Camp Hood, Texas. He was then shipped to Johnson Field, Japan with the 477th Quartermaster Laundry Company. The next assignment was at Kimpo Airbase, Korea. His discharge was at Beals, Calif., in October of 1946.
While he was a custodian, he completed several courses from the division of vocational education.
With the experience he gained as a handy man around Coldwater, Clarence developed his hobbies. After the fire that destroyed the Assembly of God Church, he, with many others, were tireless workers in building the present church. He continued as a faithful member of the Sunday School class, helping every chance he had. Another hobby was building yard and porch swings. He still found time to be an avid fisherman, spending many hours with his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife Nellie of the home; daughter, Ramona J. Bardot of McPherson; son, B. M. (Bud) Bardot and wife Jaunita and grandsons, Douglas and wife Janet, Dallas and Dwight, all of West Hartford, Conn.; nephews, Rob and Phillip Winn; niece, Dorothy Winn Christian, all of San Carlos, Calif.
