Roy Chetwyn German, Son of Peter V. German and Mary German was born March 22, 1873 in Marion County, Kansas and departed this life December 11, 1950, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 19 days.
His father preached in the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) and he passed away in 1888. His mother and two brothers, Dave and Robert, and himself came back to Lyons, Rice County, Kansas where they grew to manhood.
When Roy was a young man he joined the Christian church at Lyons, Kansas. On October 1, 1900, he was united in marriage to Jane King of Chase, Kansas. They moved to a farm near Stafford, Kansas, where they lived until 1912 when they moved to Comanche County, to the old Overstreet farm southwest of Coldwater. In 1928 they moved to Protection where they have continued to make their home.
Preceding Mr. German in death were: one son, Len, who died in 1945; a brother, Dave who passed away in Muskogee, Oklahoma, 1n 1940, and a brother, Robert who died in Grande, Oregon, six moths later; also his parents, preceded Mr. German in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and seven children: Lee C. and Earl of Los Angles, California, Mrs. Inez Freeman of Clearwater, Kansas, Mrs. Hazel Miller of Pryor, Oklahoma, Mrs. Pearl Larson of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Lena Smalley of Protection and Mrs. Nellie Bardot of Coldwater; two stepsons, Charles Leroy King, Sr. of Hancock, Iowa and W. Mason King of Arkansas City, Kansas, 45 grandchildren, a large number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
All of the children were here for the Golden Wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. German on October 1, 1950, and all the children were present with the exception of Earl, who is convalescing from surgery in a Los Angeles, California hospital, and could not be present.
Protection Post, __ December 1950. The community was sadly surprised and shocked Monday afternoon to hear of the death of Roy German, retired farmer. He succumbed to a cerebral hemorrhage in the Comanche County Hospital where he was taken after becoming ill at his home in Protection.Roy German Dies Suddenly Monday
Mr. German was seen at the grass fire on the east edge of town Monday morning and seemed to be alright. He later did some repair work around his home and it was at this time he became ill.
Mr. and Mrs. German celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary October 1st.
Funeral services for Roy German were held at the Methodist Church Thursday afternoon. Rev. E, J. Vaughan delivered the sermon.
A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Miller, Billie Miller and Chester Miller sang "In the Garden", "Going Down the Valley" and "Sometimes". Mrs. Mae Hopkins was the organist.
Pallbearers were Leroy Riner, Melvin Thornhill, Lewis Hopkins, Harmon Herd, Richard Jarnagin and Theodore Smith. Honorary bearers were Leslie Smith, Ernest Dale, L. F. Carey, Earl Martin, Ben Zane and Ben Bird.
Interment was in the Protection cemetery. Peacock mortuary had charge of arrangements.

All of the children were present for the Golden Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. German, October 1, 1950, and all the children are present at his burial with the single exception of Earl who is convalescing from back surgery in a California Hospital.
OBITUARY: Jane Rebecca (Holler) German nee King Jane Rebecca German of Protection, Kansas passed away on Thursday, June 4, 1964, in the Comanche County Hospital. She was born January 27, 1871 at Sparland, Illinois to James and Phoebe Holler.
She was married to Bert King in December of 1890 and to this union two sons were born.
In October of 1900, she was married to Roy German and to this union eight children were born. In 1912 they moved from Stafford, Kansas to Comanche County where they lived on a farm five and one-half miles southwest of Coldwater. In 1928 they moved to Protection, Kansas. In 1950 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In 1912 she joined the Rebekah Lodge and was an active member. She enjoyed painting, piecing quilts and writing letters.
She is survived by four sons: Charles King, Hancock, Iowa; Mason King, Arkansas City, Kansas; Lee German, Sunland, California; four daughters: Inez Freeman, Clearwater, Kansas; Hazel Miller, Protection, Kansas; Pearl Larson, Melrose Park, Illinois; Nellie Bardot, Coldwater, Kansas; one sister, Margaret Strohmeyer, Canyon, Texas; one brother, R. M. Holler, Ashland, Kansas; 43 grandchildren, 106 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charley, Boyd and Will; one sister, Elizabeth; one son, Len, one daughter, Lena and husband, Roy.
A family history for Roy and Jane (Holler) German was published on page 288 of Comanche County History. Both are buried in the Protection Cemetery.
