Charles Henry "Chuck" Booth died Dec. 2, 1996, at Columbia Wesley Medical Center, Wichita after a ranching accident while working cattle. He was 75 years, 2 months and 23 days old.He was born Sept. 9, 1921, at the Booth Ranch north of Wilmore. He was the son of Henry Booth and Bessie (Bell) Booth and joined two sisters and a brother, John.
He attended Wilmore and Booth schools and graduated from Wilmore High School in 1939. As a child he roamed the hills and enjoyed fishing in the South Branch River on their ranch with his brother. Chuck lived on the ranch after high school with his father.
A lifetime Wilmore area resident, he was a farmer and rancher.
Chuck met Wanda Marie Ravenstein, a teacher in Greensburg Public Schools, and they were married Nov. 28, 1964 in the First Methodist Church in Norwich. She survives. To this union, two children were born; Joe Taylor and Cynthia Louise Booth. As a family they enjoyed living in the small town of Wilmore and taking part in the Coldwater community and school activities.
He was a member of Wilmore Federated Church, serving at the time of his death as assistant chairman of the board; was a charter member of the Wilmore Lions Club; belonged to the Wilmore Volunteer Fire Department; was a former member of the Wilmore City Council; and was a member of the Kiowa Kounty Kickers' Square Dance Club. Chuck treasured his hometown of Wilmore. He was a special friend to many, delivering their mail, running errands and showing concern for those who were alone.
For the past seven years Chuck and Wanda enjoyed taking bus trips during the summer, which took them from Alaska to Nova Scotia and many interesting places in between.
Chuck enjoyed his three grandchildren and always looked forward to the days when they could keep them in their home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Wayne.
Survivors include: his wife, Wanda; a son, Joe Taylor and wife Kelly and two grandchildren, Kiah Danielle and Braden Taylor of Wilmore; a daughter, Cynthia Louise Booth and a granddaughter, Angela Marie, of Great Bend; one brother, John and his wife Ruby of Coldwater; two sisters, Helen Mae Metzger and Florence Booth, both of Wilmore; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral was Dec. 5, 1996 at Wilmore Federated Church, with the Revs. Lloyd Swindler and Barbara Palmer presiding and Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home of Coldwater in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Wilmore cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the City of Wilmore in care of the funeral home.
