Funeral services for D. Jay Overocker were held at the United Methodist church in Coldwater, Kans., on Sunday, August 31, 1975 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Paul Mundell of Protection-Antioch United Methodist church in charge. Rev. Gib Clark sang "Peace in the Valley" and "He Holds My Hand" accompanied by organist George Wolf, Ulysses, Kans.Pallbearers were Leigh St. Clair, Jim Overocker, Eldon Boisseau, Roger Boisseau, Stanley Overocker, and Ben Wolf. All were grandsons but Ben Wolf, who is a great nephew.
Honorary pallbearers were Martin Swisher, Nig Atteberry, Ernest Oller, Virgil McIntyre, Lynn Haas, John Allen, Ephraim Robbins and Ralph Klepinger.
Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery, Coldwater, Kans., with Masonic services.
Obituary. Donald Jay Overocker, son of George S. and Eva Overocker, was born February 14, 1896 and died August 29, 1975 in Kiowa County Hospital in Greensburg, Kans., at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 15 days.
Jay was born at Avilla and lived his entire life in Comanche county.
He was married to Leona Wolf April 28, 1918. To this union three children were born, Irene, Jay Jr., and John. John preceded his father in death on November 16, 1953.
Jay farmed in Avilla township until his retirement in April, 1965 at which time he and Leona moved to their present home in Coldwater, Kans. During this period he served two terms as sheriff and two terms as Commissioner of First District in Comanche county.
In 1917 at the age of 21 years, Jay was initiated into the Coldwater Blue Lodge and received his 50 year pin in 1967. At the time of his death Jay was the Senior member of this Lodge and a member of the Wichita Consistory. Jay was a member of the Antioch United Methodist church where he had an active part serving on the church board. He was also a member of the Coldwater Lions Club. One of his interests in recent years has been the Comanche County Historical Society and the development of the museum.
Jay, like his father, always appreciated a good horse and was a lover of the great outdoors.
Jay is survived by his wife, Leona, of the home; one sister, Mrs. Maude Wolf, Ulysses, Kans.; a daughter, Irene, and husband, Roy Boisseau, of Coldwater; son, Jay and wife, Mary, of Protection, Kans., and daughter-in-law, Marjorie, Wichita.
Seven grandchildren, Janice and husband, Leigh St. Clair, Protection; Linda and husband, Frank Winters, Wichita; Eldon and wife, Janet Boisseau, Wichita; Stanley and wife, Alice Overocker, Costa Mesa, Calif.; Myrna and husband, Lonnie Mendenhall, stationed with U. S. A. F. in Italy; Roger and wife, Gail Boisseau, Coldwater; and Jim Overocker, Protection.
Seven great grandchildren, Michelle and Sherri St. Clair, Nasha and John Winters, Justin and Janelle Boisseau, and Robin Mendenhall.
He is also survived by several nephews and nieces as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
