At left: Pfc. Aletha Alder, U.S. ArmyFt. Lee, Va., February 14 - Pfc. Althea Alder, Wilmore, Kans., received a promotion to her present rank at the Women's Army Corps Training Center. Enlisting in 1952, she completed eight weeks of basic training and then was selected to attend the Leader's Course here where highly qualified women are trained as potential non-commissioned officers. Pfc. Alder is assigned to the field training section of S-4 (supply) as an acting supply sergeant.
Prior to entering the WAC, Miss Alder was employed by the Southwestern Bell telephone Co., Coldwater, Kans., as a telephone operator.
She is a graduate of the Wilmore high school, Wilmore, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Alder Sr., Wilmore.
She was home on furlough last month and while here was honor guest at the home of Melvin Smith to which the Wilmore high school class of 1951 was invited. Although there were 13 graduates in 1951, the only classmates present were Pfc. Althea Alder, Evelyn Lenertz, Rowena Seaman-Taylor, Eloise Fry, Verne Nielson and Melvin Smith. Other guests were James Allen Nichols, Mrs. Verne Nielson, Pauline Loucks, Virginia Smith, John Taylor and Leonard Parks.
