The Wilmore News, January 16, 1934.

HENRY C. BALDWIN DIES IN PROTECTION

The death last Thursday of Henry C. Baldwin marked the passing of another one of Comanche County's pioneer settlers.

Mr. Baldwin came to Kansas in 1886 and had been a resident of Wilmore until a few weeks before his death when he was taken to Protection. He had been in failing health for some time but had not been confined to his bed until about a week prior to his death.

Mr. Baldwin was engaged in running a meat market and grocery store for several years but the past years had been spent in truck gardening. He knew the hardships of life but met them uncomplaining and always had a cheery smile and kind word for every one with whom he was associated.

Obituary

Henry C. Baldwin was born near Mt. Vernon, Indiana, June 6, 1854 and departed this life in Protection, Kans., Feb. 8, 1934, age 79 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters, three brothers and two wives.

He is survived by one brother, Wilford Baldwin, Hennesey, Okla., and two nephews, Earl and Elmer Baldwin of Enid, Okla.

Mr. Baldwin came to Kansas in 1886 and resided in Wilmore for 48 years.

He united with the Baptist Church in young manhood but changed his membership to the Christian Church in 1914 where he continued his membership until his death.

His first wife died in Indiana and he was married to Miss (sic) Anna Sohns of Coldwater in 1898, who preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church Friday afternoon with Rev. A. R. Brown, pastor of the Christian Church in Coldwater in charge.

Mrs. Archibald and Edythe Bigbee sang three songs, "No Disappointment in Heaven," "Good Night and Good Morning," and "The Home Over There," with Mrs. Geo. Brown at the piano.

The pallbearers were E. L. Franklin, J. D. Bell, Lloyd Alder, John Janson, T. J. Foree and L. E. Baker.

The body was laid to rest in the Wilmore cemetery.
