Our Cemetery.

Nothing speaks better for a community than a well kept, well-arranged repository for the dead. A nice arranged cemetery platted into lots with walks and drives indicates that the citizens of the town or community are refined and intelligent, while a cemetery with graves scattered around promiscuously here and there, covered with briars and weeds indicates that the citizens are rude, careless and ignorant; nothing indicates the stage of civilization in which a town or community exists better than the respect which the citizens show for their dead. Heretofore the cemetery at this place has not demanded our attention, but with the rapid increase, of our population and a death occurring occasionally we begin to feel the necessity of the neatly arranged home for our dead, under existing circumstances there is no system or plan by which our cemetery is governed, graves are dug in a haphazard sort of way and they may be where they should be or they may not. Would it not be well for our citizens to call a meeting and organize a stock company for the purpose of procuring grounds for a cemetery surveying and platting the same into lots, walks and driveways, the lots could be sold at a nominal figure to defray the expense accruing and ornament the grounds by taking the right steps now, we can secure a burying place for our dead, of which, our town and community need not feel ashamed? So let us have a meeting called for the purpose of discussing upon this matter and deciding upon some plan of action. What does (sic) our citizens say to this?   (S.B.)
