Services Held Sunday For R. W. Hackney

Was a Native of England, Coming to U.S. in 1892

Richard Walter Hackney, commonly known as Dick Hackney, died in the Hardtner hospital Thursday of last week after an illness of several months.

Funeral services were held in the Assembly of God church in Coldwater at 2:30 p.m. last Sunday and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Forrest Farley.

Mrs. Martha Zerby and Mrs. Ferrel Guizlo sang "We Will Understand It Better Bye and Bye," "Will the Circle be Unbroken?" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Farley.

The active pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased - Paul Guizlo, Robert, Darrol and Harold Hackney, Doyle Coles and Sanford Jantzen - and the honorary pallbearers, V. W. Seyfrit, Allen Cline, Mort Newton, Roland Dirks, Marvin Downing and Victor White. Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery near Coldwater.

Obituary.

Richard Walter Hackney, son of Anthony R. and Alice Hackney, was born August 11, 1886, in Bristol, England, and departed this life in the hospital at Hardtner, Kans., February 10, 1955, at the age of 68 years and 6 months after a lingering illness of several months.

He came to the United States with his parents and two sisters in 1892. They moved - immediately to Clay Center, Kans. When a young man he went to southwestern Oklahoma to help build a railroad into the Indian reservation at Homing Point.

Later he returned to Clay Center and there was united in marriage with Kate Dalrymple February 24, 1905. They remained at Clay Center 11 years, then moved to Comanche county in May, 1916, where they continued to live. To this union was born one daughter, Rosa Belle.

Mrs. Katie Hackney passed away June 2, 1948.

On April 11, 1951, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Dorothy Land and they made their home in or near Coldwater until his death. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Mrs. Rosa Evans of Wichita, Kans.; one foster daughter, Mrs. Mildred Force, of Wichita; two step-daughters, Mrs. Margaret Ward of Kiowa, Kans., and Mrs. Irene Hickman of Dodge City, Kans.; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Jantzen and Mrs. Lizzie Coles, of Coldwater, Kans.; and four brothers, T R. Hackney and William Hackney of Coldwater and Sam and Jack Hackney of San Fernando, Calif., also 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends and other relatives.
