One Day.
The angels came to our home one day,
And carried my darling far away.
The room was little and dark and small
And I did not know they were there at all:
I had caught not the rustle of a wing,
I had heard not even one angel sing;
But swiftly and silently as the dawn
They came and took her and they were gone.
Now often I sit in that small dark room
And rejoice, for the silent and dreadful tomb
Holds not my darling, for I know that day
That the angels carried her far away
She lives in Glory, and so shall I
When the angels come for me from the sky!
My eyes are dried, and my spirit sings,
As I wait the rustling of the wings!
