Fay Willard Wilson Family

Fay Willard Wilson of Reno county and Vertie Marie Boughner of Stafford county were married June 1, 1922 at Pratt, Kansas. They lived first in Reno county, then in Pratt county and during the dust bowl days of the 30's, they lived in Stevens county. From there they moved to Stafford county. Then in August of 1942, they moved to Comanche county where they purchased a farm four miles east of Coldwater. When they came, two of their children, Charles Boughner Wilson, 14 years of age, and Carmen Lucille Wilson, 6 years of age, came with them. Their other daughter, Gloria Dean Wilson came in January 1943 and went to work in the AAA office.

Charles and Carmen went to Wilmore to school. Charles decided to go to Coldwater High School his Senior year. So, he graduated from Coldwater and Carmen graduated from Wilmore.

Life was very normal. Then in 1956 - Gloria and Junior Cline, after thirteen years of married life had their first baby; Charles and Loneta (Atteberry) had their second baby; Carmen and Richard Ivy of Wichita were married; Fay ran for the office of State Representative. He won in the primary election, but lost in the general election. In 1957 things got back to a rather normal routine.

The entire Wilson family was involved with the work of the First Christian Church in Coldwater. Vertie was even playing the piano for Sunday School when she was 78 years of age.

Vertie was active in several social clubs - J.U.S., H.D.U., Coffee club, garden club and Holmes Bible Study Club - and enjoys the fellowship of people very much. Fay enjoyed his visiting with his friends and was a very good conversationalist. They both enjoyed the farm, even with the hardships which sometimes came.

Charles became a petroleum engineer, spending most of his adult life in Texas and New Mexico. He and his family did live in Sumatra for six years. Carmen worked with Petroleum Incorporated in Wichita and her husband is purchasing agent for KG & E. Gloria worked in the county offices. She was Deputy County Treasurer with Evelyn Bibb and Cathryn Darroch and was Deputy County Clerk with Marie Ferrin and Bonnie Parcel. Gloria's husband, J.R., better known as Junior, Cline has his own electrical appliance repair shop.

In October of 1966, Fay discovered he had cancer of the lungs. On January 7, 1967 he died from this. Vertie then moved the house from off the farm to Coldwater where she continues to live. Still active in social clubs and church work and keeping close contact with her family.
