Kit H. Dykes Dies In Ashland Hospital

Funeral Services Held in Methodist Church Wednesday

Kit H. Dykes, who had been a resident of Coldwater during the past 35 years passed away in the Ashland hospital about 4:30 p.m. Monday of this week. He had been quite ill four days and was taken to the hospital Sunday evening. Death was due to a heart attack.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in this city at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. Herschel Thornburg, pastor of the Prairie Vale church near Coldwater. Raymond Cline and Mrs. Leroy Cline sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "God Understands," accompanied on the organ by George Wolf.

Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery near this city. The pallbearers were Raymond Parcel, Roy Richardson, Walter Ferrin, Victor Allderdice, Roy Deewall and Oscar Taylor.

Obituary

Kit Herman Dykes was born to Enoch T. and Hiley Patience Dykes on January 19, 1882, near Rogersville in Hawkins county, Tennessee. At the age of two the family moved to Kansas and settled in Stafford county on a homestead, where he grew to manhood. In 1910 the family moved to Hodgeman county near Spearville where he met Emma Cavender, and they were united in marriage on November 5, 1913. To this union were born five daughters and one son, all of whom survive.

In August 1914, they moved to Coldwater, Kansas, where he resided until his death on October 3, 1949, in the hospital in Ashland at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 14 days. On January 1, 1925, he had a stroke and had been in failing health ever since.

He is survived by his widow, Emma, and their children, Mrs. Alfred Miller of Plains, Kans., Mrs. Charles McVey and Miss Louise Dykes of Fairfield, Ohio, Mrs. R. A. Kauppila of Lawrence, Kans., Miss Betty Dykes, Denver, Colo., and Warren Dykes of the home. Two grandchildren, Joe and Carol Miller of Plains, two brothers Edgar and B. J. Dykes, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. G. T. Emmons of Copeland, Kans., as well as many relatives and friends, also survive.
