Obituary

George Homer Kimes, son of Milton A. and Sarah Ann Kime, was born November 30, 1867 at Deep River, Iowa, and died quietly September 28, 1948 in the St. Anthony Hospital, Dodge City, Kans., at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 28 days.

Homer was one of ten children, having three brothers and two sisters, three half brothers and one half sister. He spent the first 19 years of his life in Iowa, and the remainder in Nebraska, Wyoming and Kansas, having lived on his farm northeast of Wilmore since 1909.

In April 1906 he was united in marriage to Celia Ann Smith and they began their married life at Plains, Kans., later moving to Wilmore where they spent their lives together until her death November 19, 1936.

Homer made his confession in Christ and was baptized on Easter Sunday 1948, this act was prompted in his later years by a love for the church and its work. He was concerned as to what he could do or give for his church. His life even at this late stage was fully devoted to it.

During the last year Homer's health became bad and in February of this year he came to make his home with his nephew, Fay Smith, and family where he remained until his death.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Pete, and two sisters, Blanche and Margaret, he is survived by two brothers, Charles of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Henry of Montezuma, Iowa, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

"Life's labor done, as sinks the day,
Light from it's load the spirit flies.
While heaven and earth combine to say,
How blest the righteous when he dies."
