Fred J. Jenkins, who had been in the Comanche County Hospital 87 days for treatment for cancer, passed away Thursday of last week after a lingering illness.Funeral services were held in the Wilmore Baptist church Sunday afternoon, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Ernest Lawrence. Raymond and Lee Roy Cline sang "Will the Circle be Unbroken?" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Frances Ridge.
The pallbearers were Lester Larimer, Frank and Ralph Todd, Marvin Downing, Claude Bramlett and Elwood Carlisle. Interment was in the Wilmore cemetery.
Obituary Fred Jasper Jenkins, son of Isaac and Mina Jenkins, was born in Comanche county November 4, 1886, and passed away at the hospital in Coldwater May 15, 1958, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 11 days. He spent his entire life in this county. When he was a youth he attended the Coldwater schools and was employed in the Allderdice Store awhile, but spent most of his life in the work he dearly loved, farming.
On November 21, 1918, Mr. Jenkins was united in marriage with Mary Slagle in Greensburg, Kans. To this union was born one son, who with his faithful wife, survive. Other survivors are three sisters; Mrs. Lillie Snare of Wilmore, Kans., Mrs. Alta Huckaby of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Rachel Michael of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; and four brothers, Ollie Jenkins of Bandera, Texas, Otto Jenkins of Sedelia, Mo., Guy Jenkins of Los Angeles, Calif., and Clarence Jenkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; and by other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Jenkins was an upright citizen and devoted husband and was a friend to all. He was a member of the Wilmore Baptist church.
