Obituary

Clarenda E. Hayes, daughter of John N. and Lavenia Hayes, was born in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, August 6, 1879, and passed quietly away in her sleep at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 13 days.

At the age of six months she came with her parents, her brother, Charles and sister, Olive, to Kansas, locating in Rush county. They remained there until 1884, when they moved to Kingman county. She grew to womanhood there attending the rural schools. After completing the 8th grade, she taught a year in one of the county's schools.

On May 8, 1901, at the age of 22 she was united in marriage with Arthur C. Ridge, son of Samuel and Martha Ridge of Basil, Kans. To this union were born four children; Velma, Lauren, Marion and Martha.

Mr. and Mrs. Ridge lived on their farm near Basil except for four years, 1906 to 1910, spent in Haskell county until 1919, when they moved to a farm near Wilmore, Kans.

In July, 1927, Mr. Ridge met a tragic accidental death while farming. Five years later, in July, their son, Marion, died of injuries received while swimming. In March 1949, their son, Lauren, passed away.

In 1941 Mrs. Ridge bought a home in Wilmore, where she lived until September 27, 1947, when she was united in marriage with Ed Andrews of Liberal, Kans. She lived in Liberal until her death.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Andrews, of the home; two daughters and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fay Smith of Wilmore, Mrs. LeRoy Cline of Coldwater, Mrs. Lauren Ridge, also of Wilmore, five stepchildren: Mrs. Raymond Boles, Roy and Dean Andrews of Liberal, Mrs. Earl Gooch and Mrs. Joe Kurisko of Chambersburg, Pa., seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Hayes of Enid, Okla., and Marion Hayes of Liberal.

To those who knew Mrs. Andrews, words of her unselfish service for others are unnecessary. Her family and her church friends were her chief source of enjoyment.

Martha Lavenia (Ridge) Cline, daughter of Clarenda (Hayes) Ridge.

Arthur C. Ridge, husband of Clarenda (Hayes) Ridge.

Lauren Ridge, son of Clarenda (Hayes) Ridge.
