Frances Georgia Burkhall

Frances Georgia Burkhall, 89, died Wednesday, October 27, 1999, at Pioneer Lodge Nursing Home, Coldwater, Kansas. Born April 2, 1910, at her parents' home, which was also the Nescatunga Post Office, near Coldwater, Kansas, the daughter of J.M. and Minerva (Metzker) Cline, she was a homemaker.

She was a lifetime resident of Comanche County. She attended Coldwater Grade School and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1929. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Coldwater, Kansas, and was the organist and pianist for the church for many years. Other memberships include: C.W.F. of the Christian Church, Dorcas Circle and Priscilla Circle Study and Mission Groups, and Better Homes E.H.U. Club, all of Coldwater. She was also a volunteer at the Pioneer Lodge Nursing Home.

On December 10, 1933, she married Roy Burkhall at Ashland, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1993.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons: Dale Robert Jenkins and Brian Keith Jenkins; five brothers: Hueston, Kenneth, Lee Roy, Raymond and Owen Cline; and two sisters: Leta Thompson and Edith Martin.

Survivors include one son: Danny Burkhall of Hanover Park, Illinois; one daughter: Bonnie Jenkins of Coldwater, Kansas; two brothers: Allen Cline and J.R. Cline, both of Coldwater, Kansas; One sister: Jessie Robertson of Harrison, Arkansas; three grandchildren: Gordon Jenkins of Cimarron, Kansas, Kevin Jenkins of Linnanpellonkatu, Finland, and Robin Bratcher of Protection, Kansas; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 1999, at the First Christian Church, Coldwater, Kansas, with Rev. Jack Wingate and Rev. Raymond Unruh presiding.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Kansas.

Memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church of Coldwater in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, Kansas 67029.

Roy Cecil Burkhall

Roy Cecil Burkhall, 86, died Jan. 29, 1993.

Born July 17, 1908, in Comanche County, he was the son of Robert Ernest Burkhall and Josephine (Crowe) Burkhall.

He went to the New Home school until the third grade when he moved to Stafford and attended school there until his junior year. He returned to Coldwater, finished junior and senior years, and graduated with the class of 1926. He and his brother, Francis, came back in 1924 and farmed the home place together until Roy was married. Besides farming and ranching, Roy sold Moorman feed and DeKalb seed.

Roy married Frances Georgia Cline Dec. 10, 1933. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Coldwater and was baptized Nov. 22, 1944.

Roy is survived by two children, Bonnie Jenkins of Coldwater and Danny Burkhall of Hanover Park, Ill.; four grandchildren and their spouses, including Gordon and Mary Jenkins of Cimarron; Kevin and Marja Jenkins of Fort Carson, Colo., and Finland; Brian and Jeny Jenkins of Hanover Park, Ill; Robin and Chet Bratcher of Protection.

Great grandchildren are Jennifer Jenkins, Amber and Ashley Bratcher, Emilia and Kevin, Jr., Jenkins, Nicolas and Elicia Jenkins, and Britnie Jenkins.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend and will be missed by so many.

Services were held at the Coldwater First Christian Church Monday, Feb. 1, 1993.

Minister was Jack Wingate with organist Fayette Blount. Songs were "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" and "Wonderful Peace" sung by Gerald Bumgarner.

Pallbearers were John Wayne Unruh, Jerry Allen, Rocky Stewart, Rick Coughlin, Mike Bratcher, and Ralph Hoofer.

Honorary pallbearers were Ivor Pounds, Ralph Griffith, Vernie White, Frank Meyer, Odell Brown.

Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery near Coldwater.

Arrangements were by Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home of Coldwater.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.

(Note: the printed obituary erroneously gave his name as "Cecil Roy Burkhall").

What is probably meant by the statement that Frances was born in her parent's house "which was also the Nescatunga Post Office", is that her parents were living in a building which had once served as the Nescatunga Post Office, then had been moved to Coldwater from the site of Nescatunga, which is what happened to many of the buildings that stood at Nescatunga. - J.F.
