Comments:	I found information on Archie L. Cantrell that I had been missing from my family tree. All I knew of him was on the back of my great-great grandpartens headstone in Hart Co, KY: CANTRELL, Archie L. (grandson of PA & Agnes Williams) June 22, 1886 - Sept. 29, 1918 (Lost at sea). He moved with his family around 1910 to the Kansas & Oklahoma areas. By finding this info on him is like bring him home again...Thank you for the wonderful website you have made! Comments:	Wow! I was looking for information about a cousin who passed away and stumbled on this website. My father, Richard Cline, was raised in Coldwater (son of Kenneth and Nellie Cline) and I spent every summer there while growing up. Unfortunately many members of my family, including my father, have passed over the last 10 years. Scanning your site was like coming home. I saw the beloved faces of my dad's uncles and aunts who were such a big part of my early years. I hadn't been able to attend any of the funerals, yet being able to read the obituaries was wonderful. They were such great people! I am especially grateful to have been able to read of Junior and Gloria Cline, Martha Cline, and Raymond Cline. I would like to thank my cousin Rhonda for putting all the information out there.

Comments:	I had occasion to meet a lady who lived in Wilmore and opened a grocery in Coldwater in the 1970's her last name is Boorn, she is now 94 and resides at a Nuring facility in Wichita, She would be thrilled to get news items from the area, or any archaived info. Comments:	Thank you for the postings concerning the death of Milo Windus. My grandmother was his sister, Alice. She never got over Milo's death and rarely talked about the specifics. His piano is still at the old farmhouse, or was the last time we visited there in 1991, for my grandmother's funeral. It had a bunch of steel fence posts piled against it. -- Kathy Harris

Comments:	My great granddad Rev. Joseph S. Bailey is buried in the Protection Cemetery and his obituary appeared in the Protection Post on 6-26-1913. Although he lived with his wife Rosa Shipman Bailey in Paruna Okla he was a circuit riding minister of the Christian Church. He was married by John Newton Mulkey on 12-12-1870 to his second wife and my great grandmother Eleanor Thompson Bailey. Does anyone know of a Rev. Tanksley of the christian church who performed his funeral service? I have 26 yrs of Bailey family research and an excellent photo of my great granddad with his Bible in his hand. Comments:	I want to thank you for publication of the obituary of my great granddad, Rev. Josephous Bailey on the Comanche Co Ks website. I have 26 yrs of Bailey family research on my Bailey family and trying to get the Christian Church to add Rev. Josephous Bailey's name to early circuit riding ministers of that faith. His granddad was American Rev. War patriot Callam Holman Bailey of Barren Co Ky. I have an excellent photo of Rev. Josephous Bailey holding his bible. In May 2006 we had a Bailey family reunion of descendants from each of his three wives. Of course he was married to each after death of the previous or other factors. Thanks again for this posting.

I was a Construction Electrician Constructionman (CECN E-3) when I arrived and left a CE-2. Archie Soules was the Chief in charge, Cliff Donaldson was the 1st Class BU. Comments:	Jerry, the Comanche County History book, volume 2 will be published this year. (The first Comanche County History was published in 1980 and I worked on that book, too). Family histories (760 of them) are now being "laid out" by Bell Books. I have been researching for the general history and typing articles from the Protection Post, the Protection Press, and The Western Star during the years of 1980 through 2006 (Can you imagine flipping through 8,000 pages of newsprint scanning for information? Neither can I, but I did it.) I have come up with approximately 400 typed pages of information: too much to include in the new history book. In fact, I need to condense those 400 pages into just a few pages for inclusion into the new history book. Therefore, I was very pleased to visit with you over the telephone on January 22, 2007, and knowing that I can email you all my information. You can decide whatever you would like to use of all that information on this website later this year. I have grouped my information on these topics: agriculture, bridges, businesses, former businesses, churches, events, medical, organizations, railroads and transportation, recreation, schools, weather, Protection, Coldwater and Wilmore. Comments:	Jerry, Not sure if you remember me. In the late 70's you and I crossed paths at the San Manuel mine. I'm not quite sure how or why. Maybe I was a lemonhead as that's about the time I started to work at the mine, though I had been working for Magma since 1972. I do remember that your were the editor of a little rag called mazzigine<sp>. I think I still have my copy... Anyway, I stumbled upon your Magma web page and really enjoyed reading your recollections about Magma. I too remember Ollie. It won numerous national awards for excellence in the years Nard Taiz was instructor for the class which edited, designed and produced it. We published books, calenders, broadsides and posters. I hand-bound a codex book made of copies of the Mazagine calenders we published and may someday donate it to the University of Arizona Poetry Center. Copies of all editions of Mazagine are no doubt available in the Pima Community College main campus library. )

Comments:	I enjoyed the site and the information about Lieutenant Victor E. Willard. My dad was assigned duty as a flight instructor at Gibbs Field Fort Stockton, TX and searching for information on that facility led me to this web site. I have one volume of "Solo" for Class 44-E which prompted my search for more information. A note by Director of Flying, Johhny E. Smith, says sixteen classes have graduated from the Pacific Air School at Fort Stockton since the first class entered in June, 1942. He also mentiones the school being taken over by the Central Flying Training Command in March, 1943, When Major James W. Dieterich came here to assume command. I don't know when Class 44-E began or completed their primary training but the class number makes me believe it must have begun in 1944. Thank you

Two of his brothers married sisters, daughters of Frank Bailey, who also farmed in Shimer TWP and later in Powell TWP. I am planning on visiting the area soon and see if I can locate the areas they were in and check for gravestones in Coldwater and Wilmore. My father had started working on family history before his death in 1982 and I have his "Random Recollections of My Life" that he wrote about his growing up in Comanche and Stafford Counties, I find them very interesting.

He went into the army from Coldwater in 1917. He come from Missouri to Coldwater and went to work on the DeLair Ranch and then he worked at the Depot before he went into the army. Comments:	Yes, Jerry, I'll be glad to add the names. I had written them all in & then decided to take them out. Sorry about that. Perhaps someone will remember some of the names that I mentioned. I had a great uncle, Oliver Judson Adcock, who farmed in the Wilmore, KS, area in the early 1900's. They are buried in the Wilmore Cemetery. He married Lena (Harville) Adcock (she was a sister to Mary (Harville) Jenkins). Uncle Judson & Aunt Lena had four children, Jack,who resides in Alamosa, CO, Walsie, who resides in New Mexico, Kathryn (Adcock) Dickenson, who lives in Wichita, & Jerry Adcock, who lives in Washington State. (I have to deviate from the original story here, because of something so unusual happening back in 1998.) We were travelling through AZ on our way to CA to attend a cousin's 50th wedding anniversary. My husband's mother, having lived as a small girl in CA, never had stopped to see the Grand Canyon. So, we took her to the Grand Canyon & rode the travel bus around the south & west rim of the canyon. We got to the Crow's Nest, as far as you could go & the bus driver let the people visit the little shop that was there. We decided to stay on the bus & wait, as my mother-in-law was exhausted from getting on & off the bus along the way. There was a bus driver who was still on the bus, but he wasn't driving, but training a new bus driver. He struck up a conversation with us. Upon finding out that we were from KS, he immediately got caught up with the fact that he was also from KS. Well, to make a long story short, he was from Wilmore, KS. I happened to mention that my great uncle Judson Adcock was from Wilmore. He just about exploded. Come to find out, he is the son of Mary (Harville) Jenkins, sister of my great aunt Lena (Harville) Adcock. His name is Bob Jenkins. Small world, isn't it. A couple by the name of Roy & Martha (Ridge) Cline (now deceased) who made their home for many years in Coldwater, KS. Martha was either a student at Friends University or Ft. Hays State, & became friends with my mother, Zella (Snell) Skiles, originally from St. John, KS. They had two daughters named Myrna K.(Cline) Bensing & Beth Cline, (I think). I just found a small note from Myrna on your website, so I have e-mailed her. My ancestors, the Henry Clay & Elizabeth Jane (Allen) Freeman family from Liberty, Union County, IN, traveled by train from IN to Wellington, KS. They loaded all of their possessions onto a couple of wagons along with their family of six children, & settled near Mayfield, KS, in Sumner Co., KS in August 1884. In the year 1887 & 1890, they added two more children. Mr. Freeman farmed until he retired & moved to Conway Springs, Sumner Co., KS, in 1904. My grandmother, Della C. Freeman married Charles Daniel Skiles, who came with his parents & siblings from Ladoga, Montgomery Co., IN, in the late 1890's. All of this taking place during the time that history was being made in Commanche Co., KS. I did want to add a few more things about the Wright family. Bishop Milton Wright was a circuit-riding minister back in Ohio & Indiana for the Presbyterian church. His two oldest sons, Reuchlin & Loren, both lived in KS at one time. Reuchlin, the oldest farmed in NE KS, while Loren was more the wanderer & rode the Rock Island train to the end, that being Coldwater, KS. Eventually, both Reuchlin & his family & Loren ended up moving back to Dayton, OH, where the entire family lived there. Remember the story about the bicycle shop in Dayton that Wilbur & Orville had before they introduced the world to the airplane. Something else about the Wright family, is the fact that my great grandfather, John David Snell, who moved to St. John, Stafford Co., KS in 1918, had an older sister, Elizabeth Alice (Snell) who married a man by the name of Thomas Charles Wright, a cousin to the famous Milton Wright family. That was something that was told to we grandkids from our grandfather, Walter Snell, who farmed for many years near St. John, in Stafford Co., KS. I have yet to make the connection. Hopefully this is one of those connections which I will be able to prove some day. Jerry, hopefully, now, you will be able to piece the information I've just given you with what I gave you yesterday. Several generations of Edmonstons have lived and died at Protection, having been among the earliest settlers beginning in the 1880's, I believe, and resettled there from the Holden, Missouri area. My Grandad, Frank Rainbolt, came to the Protection area as a young man by way of Texas and Oklahoma and Lewis, Kansas. Although I have lived away from Protection for many years, I still call it home and find the history of Protection and Comanche county very interesting.

Dallas now lives in Boise, ID, and I live in Stockton, KS, where I taught English for 22 years. My son, Jarrod Damon Smith, is a Navy veteran of both the Gulf War and Somalia. He was activated again after 9-11 and was with the Air National Guard in Turkey during the Iraq War. My other son, John Duane Smith, was also activated with the Air National Guard and was in Kuwait during the Iraq War. The boys grew up in Comanche County and even after we moved away, they spent considerable time with their grandparents, John and Donna Thompson. How do I go about having them included?

Comments:	Imagine my surprise when I saw the picture of my Aunt, Roberta Tinker Todd. My parents were John S. and Donna Tinker Thompson, and Roberta was Mother's youngest sister. Did your father graduate in 1948, and why does he have a picture of Aunt Roberta? I remember hearing your father's name, but I don't remember ever meeting any of you. Didn't your father move to Arizona because of his allergies/asthsma? I am far more familiar with Buck Ferrin. Robert Edward Thompson Ferrin was my nephew, and I always liked Buck. My oldest son was married in a meadow on the next door Rusk Ranch, and the first phone call Arlos had the next morning was from Buck, wanting to know all about the wedding. I was appalled that we hadn't invited him, and I wish Arlos or Maxine had said something. Maxine had taken care of my parents in Coldwater, and my son had been to the ranch with my dad not too long before he died, so that is why he was married there. Sims and his wife Jerusha Emmaline Smith Sims who lived in Comanche County in the late 19th century before moving to Oregon, where they both died. James was a brother to Mrs. Mary Eliza Estill (Aunt Lyde), and the Sims children came back to Comanche County to live with her after their parents died. They returned in 1904. I have just began to research those picture in the book and the first was a baby picture of G.W. Prichard. Upon reading of the death of this man, I noticed the name Shirley Brier, and thought if anyone in the Prichard family would like to have the photo I would gladly mail it. Bagsley, druggist, was born in Canada West, April 30, 1837. At the age of nineteen years he came to the United States and located in Grinnell, Iowa, At age 19, that would of been roughly 1857. In that year, there was a great depression here in southern Ontairo (then called Canada west), and famine to a a genral crop failure. She wanted me to find where he was buried (she couldn't remember). My grandmother, sadly she passed away this last Dec., but I still continue to search for him. A few years ago I went to Comanche Co. to see if I can find where he was buried. I found the cemetery in Protection, but couldn't find him. I found this page by accident about 3 weeks ago and downloaded some of the pictures and story about his mother (Christina Sadie Griffin) and his grandmother (Christina Baird Booth). He was thrilled to see that his mom is "famous" being on the internet and all. My grandfather died suddenly on March 29, 2004 -- just a week or so after looking at the iinformation from this site and seeing the photograph of his mother and grandmother. My mother (also Christina Wood Griffin) and the rest of our family will be traveling to Wilmore next week to take Richard's remains to the Wilmore Cemetery to be laid to rest in his parent's plot. Comments:	Hey everyone, I am at my sister Beverly's home, recovering from major stomach ulcer surgery. I was in the hospital about 3 weeks. The surgery went fine, but recovery is slow. The doctor said it could take up to a year to fully recover. I am quite weak and of course having the pain that goes along with major surgery. Beverly is taking very good care of me, making sure I am eating right and, per doctor's orders, she is at this time allowing no visitors or phone calls. I thank everyone for all the support I have received from Comanche County and beyond. It has been incredible. I thank you! I thank you! The prayers, emails, cards, flowers, food, phone calls, gifts and support for my family and me have been appreciated. My great-grandmother Sarah Ann Curran was a sister of Ellen's and also lived in Kansas for a while. I suspect she at least visited Comanche County but so far I have found no records for her. I know one of her daughters was born in Kansas. I wonder if you have an e-mail address for Ellen M. Corkhill. I would love to contact her. I have a lot of information on Ellen's siblings that I'd be delighted to share with her. If she doesn't wish to give out her address please feel free to give her mine. I have a transcript of an obituary for Thomas J. Curran, Ellen's brother who died in 1925 I think it was. He was a member of the Kansas State Legislature for a few years. I know where it came from but I don't have the exact date. If you would like a copy of it, please let me know and I'll type it up and send it to you next week (if a local forest fire doesn't put me out of commission). I haven't researched this line for about a year and just started looking at it the other day. Strange how these things go isn't it?

I now live in Oklahoma City, OK and Mom & Dad and the rest of the clan live in Tahlequah, Ok. The little brother whose name you couldn�t remember is Mat Lawrence. Mat and his wife are now Baptist Missionaries in Malawi, South Africa. I talked to mom this morning and her and dad are coming up on the 28th of this month and she is going to bring me a narrative of how and why we ended up in Wilmore. She has also promised to bring pictures that I can scan. I also do websites. I used to do it for a living but now I am semi retired so I just do it for fun. I have been feeling a real urge to come back up to the ol� town. The last time I was there was for the 100 year reunion. Comments:	You have done a great job especially on the pages for Wilmore Cemetery. It has helped me add some important names and dates to my personal file. Christina Baird Booth was the younger sister of my great-great grandmother Isabella Baird Wallace. The two girls were part of the 14 children of Alexander Baird and Helen Hunter. The Bairds came across the big pond around 1839 or 40. In 1847 the Bairds and the Wallaces came south to Pennsylvania and settled in and around Luzerne county. Many of the Wallaces stayed in the area while the Bairds moved on to Illinois. There is a rich history involved with these people.

Comments:	Jerry and Bobbi, WOW!!!! What a fabulous surprise! THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH for your parts in getting Gertrude's story to the Berreys. I forwarded it to my 2nd cousin Meredith, who is also a great grandchild of Thomas and Rowena, and know that she is going to enjoy it as much as I do. The story really is a treasure for our family and I cannot adequately express adequately how much the Berrey descendants appreciate what the two of you have done for us. Gertrude's story was fascinating and full of points that I could relate to. I could visualize quite well the first shelters described as part dugout and part sod house since my wife and I had visited a similar site in eastern Wyoming with an older friend of ours. We had taken her to visit the site of her family's original homestead. Off to the side of the house in which our friend grew up, was an excavation into a hillside. That excavation was all that was left of her family's first shelter on that land - part dugout and part sod house. My wife and I lived six years in Wyoming, which is where Gertrude apparently lived at the time she wrote her story. Cecil Berrey, my grandfather and Thomas and Rowena's only son, ranched outside of Wheatland, Wyoming with my father when I was a small boy. It appears, however, they did not find it as exciting as Gertrude and her husband did. Cecil's wife's mother was a housekeeper for a Scottish rancher and his family in Sheridan, Wyoming which is where Gertrude taught in 1936. The coincidences in her story were intriguing, to say the least. I must have read the story five times before I felt I had fully absorbed it. Bobbi, before I go, I want to take this opportunity to thank you directly for your part in helping Jerry get the Berrey family history online. As one who has looked through lots of information on the internet in search of my family history, I have come to realize through my contact with Jerry, and now you, that this information would not be there without the efforts of such giving people like the two of you.
